Two Metro trains collide during commissioning in Delhi at Kalindi Kunj depot

In a freak accident at the Kalindi Kunj depot, two delhi metro trains collided, on the yet-to-open Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West line.

The new trains, which are equipped with advanced anti-collision technology, collided on Friday during commissioning at the depot on Line 8, which is slated to become operational next year.

“The accident happened on Friday at 3:45 pm at Kalindi Kunj depot of Line 8, in which a train, which was under complete control of Hyundai Rotem for commissioning, was moved perhaps inadvertently in reverse direction by the Rotem staff,” said Anuj Dayal, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson.

No one was injured in the collision, but the trains were damaged in the incident.

“Responsibility for the incident is of Rotem and prima facie it appears to be negligence on the part of the Rotem staff,” Dayal said. “However, a detailed inquiry is being conducted by Rotem to look into this lapse for suitable action.”
