Google Maps to introduce toilet finder in Delhi & Madhya Pradesh

Google has today said that it will be introducing a new feature in google maps, it will be offering information about the public toilets so as to provide easy access to information to people in India and help sanitation.

Google has partnered with India’s Ministry of Urban Development to develop a toilet location tool that helps users find clean toilets near by them. The service will be launched initially in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, later it will rolled on to other states too.

Google is adding the location, address and opening hours of over four thousand communal and public restrooms to its Maps. It is beginning to roll out these new local listings on Google Maps today, and it will be available to users both on desktop and smartphones( iOS and Android).

Speaking at the launch event, Sanket Gupta, Product Manager, Google Maps, said, “When you search for “public toilet” on Google Maps in an area where the service is available, you’ll see a list of restrooms near you, including the respective address and opening hours.

For instance, if you’re traveling on the national highway 8 in Gurugram, locating a public toilet can be challenging and most often the only option is going to nearby restaurants and cafes. Having this information handy can make things much easier.”

An update has been rolled out by Google which has the new local listings on Google Maps and should be available to users on desktop and Google Maps for Mobile on Android and iOS.
